Dr Paul Canning has worked at National Highways since 2021, initially as the Head of Tunnel Technology and since March 2024 as the Interim Head of Operational Technology Systems Engineering. Paul’s previous experience encompasses Local Government, aviation and consultancy – including the construction of the flagship Terminal 2 project at Heathrow Airport. Paul has been involved in technology throughout his career, particularly within the field of Intelligent Transport Systems and Operational Technology. In recent years, the importance of cyber security has taken an ever more prominent role in all aspects of his work. The potential for AI to be transformative, both in an upside and downside capacity has been well documented within the press and remains an area of great personal interest to him.
