2023 Contractor of the Year: Technical Excellence

Laing O'Rourke

The Laing O’Rourke Digital Build and Build Twin Initiative is changing the way that our site delivery teams access, interrogate, and act on design and construction data. LOD400 Digital Build Models are enriched with design and build data from a wide array of sources – the goal? Creating a ‘one-stop’ digital control panel from which key project performance metrics can be assessed; empowering engineering, commercial and planning decisions to be data driven by bringing together data sources within the model space. This is affecting decision making on sites in a real and tangible way: where the detail achieved in the Digital Build models gives us certainty on what we are building, the Build Twin Initiative reveals how we are building. Knowledge empowers action; our suite of Build Twin dashboards puts the information in the hands of those that need it, when they need it.

Mott MacDonald Bentley

Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) has successfully implemented collaborative digital rehearsals to optimise the construction phase of their projects. People were at the heart of the transformation, with digital rehearsal champions being trained and embedded in project teams to help make the rehearsals part of everyday delivery. MMB used their ISO5600 certified innovation framework to explore digital rehearsal solutions, involving construction teams collaboratively. Digital rehearsals proved valuable in optioneering, working with operational assets, identifying critical activities, and improving buildability. MMB expects savings of up to 2% of project value and aims to achieve zero harm across the business through digital rehearsals.
