Costain , managing director, infrastructure
Skills & Experience: Darren James is an Executive Board Director of Costain and Managing Director of Infrastructure, one of two operating Divisions in Costain. He is responsible for the Profit and Loss of the services required to deliver smart infrastructure to clients in the Nuclear, Highways and Rail Sectors. He is responsible for the Group-wide Safety, health and Environment function and Chairs its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group. He started with Costain on an industrial placement from the University of Surrey on the A55 Conwy Crossing. Darren subsequently graduated with honours in Civil Engineering in 1990 and joined the Costain graduate development programme. During his career he has been responsible for the delivery of some of the UK’s largest Infrastructure programmes and regularly leads on Industry wide initiatives. Educated at Harvard Business School, Wharton and London Business Schools he is an advocate of continuing professional development. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, The Institute of Directors and the Institution of Civil Engineers. He also represents the industry on the Prince’s Trust Construction and Business Services Leadership Group championing the introduction of young people into the industry.
Darren is also a Non-Executive Director for the Port of London Authority who are responsible for the tidal extent of the River Thames.
